Hi Jasmine, no, this will be too much batter to put all in one pan. This cake pan sizes and conversions guide will be helpful. Keep in mind that you only want to fill your pans half way.

If not, should I scale the recipe to make 10 cups of batter (5 per pan).

Hi Anna, this frosting yields about 3 cups. Hope this helps!

I’m making a 14 inch version with two layers (but adding a marshmallow filling) so I’m wanting to make sure that I have enough buttercream to cover and do piping. (I already used another website to convert how much ingredients I’d need for the cake part of the recipe but if you have any tips for that I’d appreciate it too!) thank 🙂

Hi Deborah, unfortunately we do not recommend this recipe as the bottom tier for a cake—even the sour cream version is a bit too light to support a top tier. You could use it for a top tier, though, with a different flavored bottom tier.

My family wants me to make it weekly. I will double the recipe and will freeze the second cake in slices so my husband can take a slice out the freezer and eat it after dinner. It defrosts perfectly and still tastes so fresh!

I’ve tried so many different frosting recipes. Who knew this one, with good old Hershey cocoa powder, would be THE one. I’ve always used Dutch-processed, never again! This is hands down the best chocolate buttercream I’ve ever made. Thank you!
